Peonía Cine is
the production home of Marinthia Gutiérrez Velazco, in which her movies live. Peonía, the peony, is her favorite flower, and her bedroom is decorated by ones collected and dried over the years. Flowers and film go hand in hand for her, as objects of beauty that are intimate-- as cinema also emerges from dreaming in her bedroom. Peonía Cine is where cinema that comes from home and the heart: the memory keeper and the dreamer.
Marinthia Gutiérrez Velazco is
a filmmaker from Tijuana based in L.A. She is drawn to tell stories that are character-driven and introspective in an almost surreal way, visualizing raw emotions through highly stylized images and a tinge of atmospheric magical realism. Marinthia's debut short film, Ella se queda, was the recipient of the 2022 Standard Fantastic Fellowship and it world-premiered in 2024 at Semaine de la Critique in Cannes.
